They Choose
They Choose.
You Suffer.
Everyone Wins.
A humorous and addictive bullet-heaven experience where your enemy chooses your upgrades for you!
Update:
Based on some of the comments that I have received, I have fixed and patched some issues of the game to make it more engaging early on! I have also implemented a simple onboarding tutorial that explains the game better!
Please continue leaving comments and share your ideas and frustrations with me so I can address the issues.
For more details about what has been patched, please visit the Devlogs at the bottom of this page!
They Choose:
Your survival depends on their incompetence. A council of seven monster lords decides what upgrades you receive after every wave. They are not helping you (they are trying not to and that's what matters- the intensions!). They have agendas, grudges, and opinions - and they have a lot of optimism. Whatever they vote for, yo6 will handle; that's the attitude of a real hero! I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you die - it might not be fully your fault - but it will definitely be a skill issue in my eyes.
Go on... Press Run Game and begin the suffering... I know you like it!

How it works.
01
Survive the Wave
30 seconds for each wave! Everything wants you dead. Move. Shoot. Loot. Don't worry, you will die eventually! 13 unique enemies and six bosses! After you beat the last boss, the enemies morph and combine various unique abilities as the council gets desparate!
02
Watch them Vote
The council deliberates. They want you gone. Someone betrays the others - or maybe that was a misclick - who knows?! The votes are counted - a tie will be decided by the vote of people, or just chaos!
03
Become A Monster
There are 48 unique upgrades! Whatever they chose, you get. Whether you wanted it or not. All Stacked.
Seven Council Members. Zero mercy. Zero competence.
Each member has fixed biases, personal grudges, and no interest in your survival. Curses win ties. Chaos decides the rest.
Watch them decide your fate.
After each wave, the council deliberates. Three cards. Up to five opinions. One outcome.

Choose your suffering.
Three characters. Each lopsided by design. No correct choice.

A tank. a rogue and uhm... Jerry and Joey? I call them The Bond! (Open for better suggestions)
Features.
Adversarial democracy: The council votes against your interests every wave. Watch it happen in real time.
Upgrades you didn't ask for: Weapons, passives, curses, and abilities. The council tries its best to ruin your run. They don't always succeed.
Champions of the Council: Milestone bosses that drop unique weapons. Each one is considerably harder to kill than they look.
A growing threat: Enemies evolve as your kill count rises. New behaviours. New problems. The council watches with interest.
Seven biomes: The scenery gets considerably worse as your build gets considerably better.
Runs anywhere: Browser native. No install. No account. The council is ready when you are.

If you enjoy your suffering
If you enjoyed the experience and have the means, donations are hugely appreciated no amount is too little— they help us keep making weird stuff like this (and get treats for my dog).
If not, feedback is just as valuable (the council hates it so you defo should leave a comment about what works and what doesn't).
Both help us survive and make more and better games.
Developer's Note
This game was designed and directed by me, Mike. I am a game designer who's been working in the industry for a few years. I wanted to make a fun game that is accessible and finally release my debut game; so I started the work on They Choose. I wanted to make a game that I would play myself; something easy and accessible that keeps you wanting more. Being solo, my resources are very limited but my hopes are high and I truly hope that you enjoy this game. If you do enjoy it, please consider supporting me so that I can continue working on this and more projects! I would really appreciate it if you for example share screenshots of your score on social media tagged #TheyChoose, recommend the game to your friends, give me feedback on what's good and what's bad, and if you have the means and enjoyed the experience, donate whatever you think is reasonable!
During the development process, Claude was used as a coding and design assistant during development in a few occasions— think pair programmer rather than author.
